Susan Roessel Dura


 

sue_250 Susan Roessel Dura has been very active as an amateur musician. While pursuing degrees in psychology and computer programming, she has studied bassoon with  Ferdinand Del Negro of the Philadelphia orchestra and Harold Golter of the New York Philhamonic and Daniel Bredenthal of the LA Philharmonic. She has played in college and community orchestras and bands as well as early music groups and chamber ensembles. Upon moving to Alabama, Sue joined the Shoals Symphony Orchestra, playing principal bassoon from 1987 - 2006. She has been featured as a soloist with the organization. For six years, she was Personnel Manager. She was a founding member of the Shoals Chamber Players and the Camellia Consort. Sue maintains a lively interest in early music and regularly attends recorder and baroque bassoon workshops such as the Amherst Early Music Festival and Texas Toot. She hosts the Rogersville Recorder Retreat, now it its 12th year, which caters to advanced recorderists hand picked by the faculty, Blaker and Berlin. She serves on the board of directors of the American Recorder Society and teaches beginning recorder to elementary children as a volunteer.
